There’s no denying that winter has arrived in Indianapolis. Record-breaking low temperatures and a seemingly daily fresh dusting of snow will hardly let us forget. This month, in City Gallery, a group of talented artists remind us of the beauty that goes along with the deep freeze. “Winter in Indy” is a collection of landscape paintings from Justin Vining, Kyle Ragsdale, Benny Sanders, Alicia Zanoni, Jingo M. de la Rosa, Addie Hirschten, Mike Sinon, Allen Bannister, and Jed Dorsey.
The parameters laid out for this show were broad–a winter scene in Indianapolis–it could be plein air, but it could also be a studio piece. The result is a range of work that includes some snow scenes, several pieces without snow, but all with an obvious chill in the air.
Justin Vining, who gathered the participants for the show said, “Mike Sinon and I were the only ones to contribute plein air works to the show although we were also out with Benny Sanders who decided to contribute some studio pieces. Working in the winter has its challenges, but the biggest difference has to be the restricted movement due to wearing so many layers along with painting in bulky gloves.”
Winter in Indy opens Friday, January 5 with an artist reception and hangs through January 26th. Bundle up and come check it out!
